01 The shelf

Put things by.
Quietly.

Putby is a wishlist for birthdays, weddings and the small occasions. You throw your wishes onto a shelf and hand round one link. Friends put a thing by with a clay token, face down, so nobody buys the same bowl twice and you never see who took what.

02 Throw a wish

On the wheel, onto the shelf

A wish goes on the way a pot does: you say what it is, it gets thrown, it lands on the shelf. Try it. What you type appears on the drawing board as a fresh pot and in your list below.

Plain words are best. A wish is a thing, not a link to a shop.

    03 Hand round the token

    One link, stamped in clay

You get one address for your shelf, stamped the day you open it. Send it in a message, write it on a card, read it out down the phone. Friends open it and see only the shelf. No sign-up, no app, no account of yours to peek at.

The link is the whole invitation. Anyone holding it can put things by; only you can throw new ones.

    04 The quiet claim

    Put by, face down

A friend taps a token and turns it over. That thing is now spoken for, and every other visitor sees it is gone. Flip to the owner's view: the tokens sit exactly as they were. The surprise survives the party.

      05 The kiln ticket

      One small price, fired once

Putby costs less than the card you would buy to go with the gift. One shelf, unlimited wishes, tokens that stay face down for good.

      £3a month, per shelf

The fictional price of the fictional product. First month unfired: leave any time and the shelf goes back to clay.
