WallwardW1 laser projector · taking reservations

It sits on the console. The picture covers the wall.

The W1 laser projector sits 14.8 inches from your wall and throws a 120-inch 4K picture up onto it. Nothing to hang, no cable up the wall. Fill in this sheet with your own room and it draws what you'd see, at your size and in your light.

Measure your wall

Use a tape measure. Inches for the console, feet and inches are worked out for you.

The further back it sits, the bigger the picture. Every inch adds about 6.4 inches of diagonal.

Measure between whatever stops the picture: a door frame, a corner, a shelf.

The throw line

Every picture size is a stop. Drag the orange marker along the line, or tap a stop to move the W1 there.

Your light

A laser is bright, but your lamps land on the same wall. This is the part most launch pages leave out.

What the picture lands on

The screen's ridges send the W1's light, which comes from below, toward you, and send light from above down to the floor. It costs $899 for this fictional product.

The rare projector whose spec sheet undersells it in a dark room and admits what happens in a bright one. Darkroom Notes, a fictional review site, tested a prototype W1 for six weeks, September 2026.

    What it isn't

    • It won't beat a sunny room with the blinds open. No projector does. Step 2 shows you the hours it will.
    • On a plain wall, one lamp turns black to charcoal. The screen fixes most of that; a dark room fixes all of it.
    • Your wall has to be flat. Light comes in at a steep angle, so a bump of a sixteenth of an inch throws a shadow. Skim-coated drywall is fine; textured plaster is not.
    • It needs a deep console, or one pulled out. For a 120 in picture the W1's front sits 29 inches from the wall, so most consoles come forward a little, like the one in Fig. 1. Nothing in front of it can stand taller than its top.
    • It isn't a TV in daylight. If you mostly watch at noon with the curtains open, buy a TV and keep this sheet.

    Sheets that came back

Before a single prototype shipped, 318 homes filled in this sheet with their own wall and mailed us a photo of it, June to September 2026. Here are five of them, drawn to the same scale as yours, with what they wrote on the back.
